HVAC-R repair for food and cold-chain businesses
Commercial Refrigeration Repair Sydney
When a cool room climbs past its setpoint, the clock starts on everything inside it. Refrigeration faults are diagnosis problems (airflow, refrigerant, electrical, controls) and the right fix depends on which one you actually have. Describe the equipment and the symptom and get a repair scoped properly.
Anyone who handles refrigerant in Australia (recovering, charging or opening a sealed circuit) must hold a refrigerant handling licence issued under the ARC (Australian Refrigeration Council) scheme, and businesses acquiring refrigerant need a refrigerant trading authorisation. Electrical repairs on refrigeration plant are licensed electrical work. Ask for the licence details covering your specific job and verify them before work proceeds.

Cool room and freezer room repairs
Diagnosing and repairing walk-in cool rooms and freezer rooms that will not hold temperature.
Display case and cabinet service
Repairs to display fridges, under-bench units, prep fridges and open-deck merchandisers.
Refrigerant leak detection and repair
Finding leaks, repairing them and recharging systems under refrigerant handling licensing.
Compressor and condensing unit work
Replacing failed compressors and restoring condensing units that can no longer reject heat.
Planned maintenance and temperature compliance
Scheduled servicing that keeps equipment inside food-safety temperatures and out of breakdown territory.
Straight answers
Refrigeration questions
My cool room is running but not cold. What is wrong?
That symptom has several honest answers: an iced evaporator that air cannot cross, a refrigerant leak that has starved the circuit, a failed evaporator fan, a fouled condenser, or seals letting warm air flood in. Each has a different fix, which is why diagnosis comes before parts.
Can I just get the system regassed?
If it needs gas, it has a leak, and topping up without repairing it means paying for the same refrigerant again while it vents to atmosphere. Handling refrigerant also legally requires an ARC licence. Leak-find and repair first, then recharge, is the lawful and cheaper sequence.
What temperatures do food businesses have to keep?
Food-safety rules require potentially hazardous food to be held at safe temperatures (cold food cold, frozen food hard frozen) and food authorities expect businesses to be able to demonstrate it. Where exactly your setpoints should sit depends on the product and your food-safety program; repair work is verified against the setpoints your business operates to.
Is it worth repairing old equipment?
Sometimes. The call weighs repair cost against age, refrigerant type, energy hunger and parts availability. A decade-old cabinet on a phased-down refrigerant with a failed compressor is usually a replacement conversation; a five-year-old room with a leaking valve almost never is. Expect that reasoning to be shown, not asserted.
What should I do while waiting for a repair?
Keep doors shut and openings minimal, move what you can into working equipment, log temperatures on the failing unit for your food-safety records, and avoid switching things off and on hoping for a reset, repeated hard starts can finish off a struggling compressor.
Do you handle air conditioning too?
The trades overlap, HVAC-R covers both, but this service is scoped around commercial refrigeration: rooms, cabinets and process cooling for businesses. If a job spans both, say so in the enquiry and the scope gets confirmed up front.
Refrigerant releases, electrical faults and CO2 or ammonia plant are specialist hazards, never open a sealed refrigeration circuit or bypass a tripping breaker to keep a unit running. If stock has spent unknown time above safe temperature, treat it as a food-safety decision, not just a refrigeration one.
How it works
From fault report to cold equipment
-
01
Report the fault
The equipment type, what it is doing, current temperatures and a photo of the nameplate and the unit itself let triage start before anyone travels.
-
02
Get a scoped estimate
The estimate covers the likely fault paths, attendance and diagnosis, and how parts and refrigerant are handled if needed, so approval decisions are made once, not mid-repair.
-
03
Diagnosis and repair
The fault is traced to its cause, the repair is done under the appropriate licensing, and the system is run back to setpoint and verified before handover.
-
04
Report and prevention
You receive a record of what failed, why, and what was done, plus a plain reading of the equipment's condition so replacement or maintenance decisions are made with open eyes.
